DYLAN WISSING

Birthplace Bloomington, Indiana
Birthday April 23 (same as Shakespeare)
Instrument Drums
Inspired to play drums by a great grandfather who was a professional songwriter and vaudeville drummer, Dylan grew up in a rich musical atmosphere. Living in Bloomington, he was fortunate to study percussion with local residents Kenny Aronoff (who's recorded and performed with just about every major name in rock) and Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live, Shawn Colvin, David Byrne). Dylan was exposed to nearly every style under the sun, through a stint in Indiana University's School of Music as a Jazz Studies major, performing with Grammy-Nominee Mariano Morales' Salsa Orchestra, and countless pickup gigs in rock, jazz, and funk bands. He describes himself as a rock drummer heavily influenced by funk, reggae, and West African pop. "My goal as a drummer is to get people to move. If people aren't dancing, I feel I'm doing something wrong."

A founding member of Johnny Socko, Dylan handles much of the business end of the band and Triple R Records as well. "Having been in this band for nearly fifteen years, I can barely remember life outside of Socko, which suits me just fine." In his spare time, he studies early 20th Century architecture and graphic design, reads history, cooks and eats Thai, and plots Johnny Socko's global domination.

Dylan Wissing proudly endorses GMS Drums, Sabian cymbals, Aquarian Drumheads, Pro-Mark Sticks, and XL Specialty Percussion cases.
